DRIVING WHILE IMPAIRED – Defining “Driving”

As always, we begin our analysis by reviewing the relevant law, N.C.G.S. 20-138.1: “A person commits the offense of Impaired Driving if he drives any vehicle upon any highway, any street, or any public vehicular area within this state: While under

DRUGGED DRIVING IN NORTH CAROLINA

Drugged Driving – or Drug DWI – is a form of “Impaired Driving,” under N.C.G.S. 20-138.1. This is the same law that the State uses to convict drunk drivers. In other words, the same law governs drunk driving and drugged driving. But, operating under the influence of drugs, and operating under the influence of alcohol, are two very different things.

Over the course of the past year, I’ve managed to check off an item from my bucket list: teaching myself web design. And I’m not talking about how to navigate through some cookie-cutter, $29.99-a-month, Weebly, Wix, or Squarespace account – I’m talking about custom web design. Designing something more than I am moderately tolerant of, but instead designing a platform that I’m truly proud of putting my name on.
Web design can be used as a platform to launch one’s message: it can be either a credit or discredit to society. A well-designed website can direct and funnel traffic to serve some end, whether it be promoting one’s profession, or selling some chattel. It can be a work of art: showcasing beautiful design, or flaunting other-worldly, three dimensional effects. It can be utilitarian. It can be idealistic. It can be helpful, or hurtful, or may never make it off the ground at all.
Hiring a web-designer was never for me: I inherently knew I’d never be fully satisfied with the result. I’d always want to make changes, I’d never be able to reach the designer – or if I was, I’m certain they’d find a way to bill me on an hourly rate. So, I used the most important skill in my repertoire and I went out an taught myself.

Learning WordPress has been an amazing experience – a project I constantly find myself drawn to, for sometimes just a few minutes, or others just a few hours. Continuing to improve my website(s) by polishing them, creating better artwork, delving deeper into Photoshop, creating new content for, and relentlessly spell-checking, will forever be a life-long hobby and pursuit.

As you can see, fletcher-legal.com is enormous; its goals were beyond lofty: they were atmospheric. This site started as a standard WordPress install, and whatever you design doesn’t need to be anywhere near as complex. I started this site with the goal of being the first law firm in North Carolina to automate expungements. After our “eureka” moment, I wanted to take just one more step. In a way, e-TOOLKIT is the online journal I’ve kept of my path from domain registration to official launch.
WordPress.org is a free, open-source software that powers almost one-quarter of the internet. It’s extremely powerful, yet extremely user-friendly. Combined with the theme-builder “Elementor,” and other premium plugins like “Formidable,” “Astra,” and the limits of one’s determination and creativity, it’s now easier than ever to construct whatever online vision you may have.

e-TOOLKIT is a unique collection of plugins, applications, and other accidentally stumbled-upon web tools that I discovered during my journey; they’ve since been regularly integrated into my projects or training. Because they’re maintained by 3rd parties, neither I, nor my law firm, have any control over their use or design – we cannot guarantee they’ll work for your specific needs, only that on at least one occasion they worked for mine.

Occasionally, this website has been listed as an affiliate of some of the software listed below. What this means is that should you decide to purchase any of these programs, a small percentage of the transaction will go toward maintaining this site, and furthering our development – as long as you follow our links below prior to purchase.

If learning how to build a website interests you the way it interested me, then I encourage you to register a domain, subscribe to a hosting service, and give WordPress a try. If you stick with it, you’ll be amazed by what you can accomplish. And if I may ever be of help, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m always here to help pull the next one up behind, and I wish you nothing but success in your practice, your goals, and your life.

Very Truly Yours,

- D. FLETCHER
